Gov. Kaine: Fund Alicia's Law!
This week on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Alicia Kozakiewicz shared her courageous story of survival and rescue from an internet predator (link). Alicia didn't relive her past trauma just to inform the public of the dangers of internet predators. Alicia and PROTECT are launching a final push to get full funding for Alicia's Law. Children's lives are at stake.
In 2008, Alicia's Law provided desperately-needed resources for the Virginia law enforcement units that track down child pornographers and rescue children. Since passage last year, dozens of children have been located and saved from the nightmare of abuse, and many more predators have been stopped. The stories would break your heart.
But in 2009, Alicia's Law was gutted. Virginia's Governor and Legislature cut state funding from $1.5 million to $100,000, gambling that federal grants would make up the difference. That gamble failed, and now the task forces face deep cuts.
Only one man has the power to fully fund Alicia's law: Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.
We need every voice we can get to have this critical Law Enforcement funding restored, so please forward this alert to your family and friends. And take action now!
