Ask
your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor the Keeping Families
Together Act (S. 380, H.R. 832), so that no other family need be torn
apart to get the help their child with a mental or emotional disorder
needs.
Talking Points
You
may incorporate the points below in your message to let lawmakers know
why improving access to children's mental health services is important
to you.
- Each year,
thousand of families are torn apart when they relinquish custody to
obtain state-funded mental health services, according to the General
Accounting Office.
- On
any given night, two thousand American children are inappropriately
warehoused in juvenile detention centers awaiting access to community
mental health centers, according to a recent Congressional
investigation. As a result, children's mental health deteriorates as
they languish in the juvenile justice system.
You can
help end the crisis in children's mental health by telling lawmakers to
support the Keeping Families Together Act. Please use the space
provided below.
Please Note:
- Our system
will let you send messages only to lawmakers who are not already listed
as co-sponsors for the Keeping Families Together Act.
- Most
offices do not respond to e-mail from people outside their districts.
Our system should automatically match you to your Representative and
Senators, but you should also identify yourself as a constituent.
- Your message will be more effective if you personalize it and tell lawmakers why this issue is important to you.
