Beyond Election 2004: Turning Momentum Generated on the Web Into Lasting Support for Your Issues
Moving Ideas Network and DemocracyInAction.org invite you to take part in an event on Dec. 9th to debrief and share ideas on how advocacy organizations can use new tools to turn pre-election energy (and post-election anger) into real support for your issues.
This is no time to despair. This is especially no time to lose faith in civil democracy. Our job is now to intensify public outreach and find more effective ways to engage a broad audience.
We need to encourage civil democracy by joining up, volunteering, getting active in our communities to help build the peace, economic justice, environmental and other social movements that can make change.
New tools and practices born on the Internet have reached critical mass during this election cycle, enabling folks to have a voice and participate in processes like never before.
While the 2004 election will not have been won or lost because of the Internet, it has changed at least some of the rules -- for politicians, media and, most important, for citizens.
New online tools have given thousands of people a sense of empowerment that could very well turn into active engagement and healthy activism. Is your organization prepared?
Please Join Us!
We've invited some excellent speakers to come and share their experiences both online and in the field.
Looking back, we'll discuss how technology influenced the election -- what new tools, strategies, and methods were employed that both political and advocacy organizations can take advantage of. What worked? What didn't?
Looking forward, we'll discuss ways tap into the energy that's been generated, ways to keep your activists and supporters engaged (both online and off), what's new and what's next in online organizing tools and technologies.
