On May 1st, Democratic superdelegates launched an effort to unify Democratic delegates – whoever their presidential preference may be – around a strong party platform plank demanding an end to the war in Iraq and the failed foreign policy that led the nation there.

While the superdelegates disagree on who should be Commander and Chief they all agree the Democratic Party should be united around calling for a responsible end to the war in Iraq, a diplomatic surge with Iran and an end to the use of torture. Already, 50 superdelegates have signed a petition that urges the Democratic National Platform to include the following language:

  • An end to the war in Iraq by initiating the safe and secure withdrawal of all U.S. combat forces and private military security contractors, leaving no permanent military bases behind;
  • A robust diplomatic surge in the Middle East and beyond, as recommended by the Iraq Study Group, that includes negotiations with the Iranian government; and
  • An end to the use of torture and the closure of our prison at Guantánamo Bay.

Support these superdelegates by adding your name to a growing list of Americans calling on the Democratic party to add these three issues to the party platform this August at the Democratic National Convention.

I call on the Democratic Party to make a responsible end to the war in Iraq, a diplomatic surge with Iran and an end to the use of torture part of the party platform in 2008.

Win Without War, a 501(c)3, is working with Democrats and Republicans alike to call on both national parties to incorporate a withdrawal from Iraq into their party platforms in 2008. For more information on these efforts please email info@winwithoutwarus.org
