Since the passage of HR 6, The Clean Energy Act of 2007 in mid-January as part of the House Democrats' "100 Hours" agenda, the bill has not received any sponsorship or leadership by Senate Democrats or Republicans.

We need your help to convince Senators to sponsor this bill and move it forward in the Senate in its entirety.

I am very pleased with House leadership on the issue of repealing oil subsidies. The House passed H.R. 6 in mid-January but since then, there has been no movement on this very important bill in the Senate. H.R. 6 is a bill that will cut tax breaks for oil companies and other fossil fuel industries in order to create a renewable energy fund. I urge you, as my elected representative to take initiative on this bill and move it forward in the Senate.

It’s always seemed unjust to me that oil companies are the most profitable businesses in the world even though they are a major contributor to global warming. And it seems doubly unjust that oil companies are getting tax breaks and handouts from the federal treasury!

The Department of the Interior report that was in the news recently found that federal government would lose $40 billion over the next 40 years, because oil companies aren’t paying royalties when they drill in publicly owned places. Taxpayers would be far better served if that money were collected from oil companies and put back into the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, which are the technologies with the most promise of curbing global warming and reinvigorating the economy.

Please help repeal huge subsidies to oil companies and other fossil fuel industries by moving H.R. 6 in its entirety forward in the Senate.  Take a leadership role in helping to repeal unnecessary oil subsidies!
