You can't fight global warming with coal

Sen. Obama's push for coal-to-liquid technology is far from super.
This transportation fuel made from coal would actually double the global warming
pollution coming from our cars and planes!

Dear Sen. Obama:

Now more than ever, America needs leadership to solve global warming and decrease our dependence on oil. The "Coal-to-Liquid Fuel Promotion Act of 2007" you introduced in early January will compromise our ability to solve global warming.  The process of making liquid coal is an expensive, inefficient process that releases large quantities of heat-trapping carbon dioxide into our air.

Your website states: "We need to take steps to stop catastrophic, manmade climate change. If we do not act, the consequences will be devastating for future generations, especially for the poorest global populations."

Despite this claim, however, your push for coal-to-liquid technology is a giant leap in the wrong direction. Better, cleaner options already exist to reduce America's dependence on oil: efficiency, smart growth and renewable fuels.

We are overwhelmingly concerned about your support of this legislation. You claim to be a different kind of politician and yet you push legislation that does not have America's best interest at heart.

Second, if he is aware of the facts, that current practices are impacting human heatlh, then he is advocating that it is alright for some people (mostly poor) to become ill or die rather than advocate changes in energy consumption and sources.
