Salsa beta update 03.15.07 -- release day

Building software is a bit like building IKEA furniture. Towards the end you can see the chair/desk/cabinet come into form, but it's not quite done. You think it's done because it "looks" done. But, then you ask yourself, if it is done than why do I have seven screws, three wooden plugs, two allen wrenches, and some bolts leftover? And whose hand is that?

Here is todays installment in our ode to Ignacio Piñeiro. Expect to see these changes by around 7pm this evening.

- can now target based on percentages
- can now edit full HTML of email blasts
- some many updates to public facing pages we need to shake a stick at them because they are multiplying. And they are hungry.
- tackled a pernicious bug that booted you out of the system after saving reports
- fixed tax status issue on recurring donations
- flipped the min and max
- got a haircut
- documentation is linked to from all dashboards. check yo'self b4 you wreck yo'self
- searching from the widget on the support dashboard is now hunky dory
- querying on event status is now salsa-refic

Salsa Is Here

Today is the first day of the rest of your e-advocacy. Salsa, DemocracyInAction's new user tool, goes from public beta to public release today. And your online communications won't be the same again. Far more than a user interface, Salsa is a comprehensively new architecture of the DIA Constituent Relationship Management toolset, packing: In fact, that list just scratches the surface, and some of the transformative potential of Salsa's build will only become apparent in the months ahead. But all that lies ahead. Today, we celebrate the new day.

The Smell of Salsa in the Morning

First things first. If you're in D.C. or anywhere within about a two-state radius, get yourself to our Read more...

Salsa Update 03.14.07

Dear Beta Testers,
I feel like Colonel Kurtz. I've gone bamboo, but somehow I am still in Dupont Circle looking out my window into an Italian restaurant. The clamor of machines being poked and prodded ring through my ears. Code is being run through the play-doh fun factory in an attempt to shape it into something pleasant. The end is near.

Here are somethings we've done:
- fixed issue where clicks on email links were not being displayed
- queries are now more correct, less broken, and taste better
- online actions now load in targets via ajax
- fixed bug where online actions did not save selected targets
- fixed incorrect count with email blast preview

Here are somethings we'll do:
- attack FCK editor and prevent it from killing everything above the <body> tag
- move Salsa to its production environment
- feel the need for speed
- allow you to choose previously saved queries for your email blast
- get a haircut

Salsa: What To Expect

Dear Campaign Managers,

salsa As you know, DemocracyInAction is transitioning to the tool we're calling "Salsa" -- a new user interface that dramatically extends your capabilities.  In the upcoming weeks, we'll be working with you to shift your organization's operations completely over to Salsa, and I want to be sure you know just what to expect.

First, the official release starts next Thursday, March 15 -- and we do hope you'll join us at our party to celebrate the occasion!  It will be more of a progression of the rollout process already underway, than a one-time transformation.

What this means is that public documentation and training will move exclusively to Salsa at that time (and all new organizations joining the DIA community will be set up on Salsa).  We'll have a variety of user support resources that will roll out around the release, and beginning the week of March 19, we'll offer a series of webinars to help current DIA users transition to Salsa.  We'll also be making a number of road trips this spring to provide in-person trainings, and ...
