ACTION ALERT

Support Affordable Housing

From Partnership for Strong Communities

We need your help NOW to ensure that HOMEConnecticut's legislative proposal to increase the supply of affordable housing in Connecticut is passed this legislative session:

* Will help create 60,000 units of modest and affordable housing units over 15 years.

* Provides incentives to towns that voluntarily create zoning that allows for mixed-income housing including reimbursement for any additional school costs from children living in the new housing units.

* Provides technical assistance funding for non-profit developers and for municipalities to create such zones.

* Includes incentives (through project-based subsidies) for developers to create rental housing for households below 50% of the area median income.

* Pays for itself by keeping workers and jobs in Connecticut. In addition, for every $1 it invests in this plan, the State will gain over $2 in revenue.

Love Requires Acceptance

"It is unbecoming of people of faith to spend so much time and energy entrenched in such hatred, bigotry, intolerance, and homophobia. It is unbecoming and insulting to God who favors justice, mercy and love and lives on the side of the oppressed."
-- Rev. Joshua M. Pawelek

Demanding Equal Rights

"Though the technical definition of the term "Civil Union" may include all of the rights and privileges the state of Connecticut can grant to married couples, the actual definition of the term is a system under which same-sex relationships aren't as important or valuable as straight relationships, and therefore neither are gay, lesbian, and transgendered people." -- Becca Lewis, ISO

40 Years of Occupation And 60 Years of War: Enough

"For a real road map to peace, all we need is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to implement all relevant UN resolutions starting with UNGA 194 of 1949. Many churches, unions, and student groups heeded the Palestinian civil society call that focuses on non-violent actions including boycotts, divestments, and sanctions similar to what was applied on South Africa."

NEXT STEPS FOR THE PEACE MOVEMENT

A Proposal from the ANSWER Coalition

"A mobilization of one million people marching on Washington DC would be the best possible trigger for an avalanche of grassroots organizing throughout the country and among service members and their families and veterans. It is time for something bold and broad. Something that sends an unmistakable message to the powers that be that the people of the United States have entered the field of politics in such a way as to become an irresistible force."

Cindy Sheehan's Disgust With Democratic Party

"So, Democratic Congress, with the current daily death toll of 3.72 troops per day, you have condemned 473 more to these early graves. 473 more lives wasted for your political greed: Thousands of broken hearts because of your cowardice and avarice. How can you even go to sleep at night or look at yourselves in a mirror? How do you put behind you the screaming mothers on both sides of the conflict? How does the agony you have created escape you?"

SPIRITUALITY

"But you rise up against my people as an enemy; you strip the robe from the peaceful, from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war. The women of my people you drive out from their pleasant houses; from their young children you take away the honor I gave them."
- Micah 2:8-10
