Dear Supporter, Contents: Support Anti-Discrimination Legislation for Gender Non-Conforming People Support Codification of Marriage Equality in CT Statutes. From the CT TransAdvocacy Coalition: Tell your legislator to support HB 6452: An Act Concerning Discrimination, with no amendments! Your legislator may be on the Judiciary Committee, and so may vote any day on this legislation. Tell your legislator that it is time for Connecticut to join 13 other states who have enacted laws to protect their trans and gender non-conforming citizens from discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and other areas. No longer should trans and gender non-conforming people face such pervasive discrimination in our state. AND don't forget to be sure to attend our Lobby Day on April 7th where you can personally contact your legislator to encourage their support of HB 6452. Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM Legislative Office Building in Hartford 300 Capital Ave, Hartford; Room TBA. From Love Makes A Family The legislature's Judiciary Committee is voting tomorrow/Monday on the marriage codification bill SB 899: An Act Implementing the Guarantee of Equal Protection under the Constitution of the State for Same-Sex Couples: http://www.lmfct.org/site/PageServer?pagename=currentissues Although marriage equality is here to stay in Connecticut, the bill is important: It would finally remove demeaning anti-gay language from CT statutes, provide a means for merging civil unions and marriages by October 2010, and provide for recognition of marriages, civil unions, and domestic partnerships from other states. It is critical that we have supporters in the room. Even an hour of your time will help! The meeting begins at 12noon in Room 2C of the Legislative Office Building. Directions and parking info are here: http://www.cga.ct.gov/html/citizen/DrivingDirections.pdf We have been told that at least one committee member will try to introduce hostile amendments to provide unconstitutional religious exemptions. Legislators on the committee need to understand that this is unacceptable, and your presence will convey that. For breaking news on this, visit http://www.lmfct.org/ |
