I wish I could attend the public hearing to testify in support of H6190 to create a Do Not Mail registry. I think junk mail is an invasion of my privacy and a huge waste of resources and tax dollars. I hope you will enthusiastically support its passage.

The production and disposal of junk mail consumes more energy than 2.8 million cars. It also wastes more than 100 million trees worth of paper each year - that's the equivalent of clearcutting Rocky Mountain National Park every four months! Rhode Island residents and local governments spend over $770,000 per year to collect and dispose of over 21 MILLION pounds of bulk mail that doesn't get recycled.

Rhode Island citizens have the right to post "No Soliciting" signs in our driveways, turn off our TVs and radios when unwanted ads come on, and sign up for the popular DoNotCall.gov telemarketer registry. Likewise, we should have the right to opt out of ad mail with an easy-to-use Do Not Junk registry.
