1. Job Seeking?

Check out our new job board! This niche career center is designed to help physicians find well matched employers. There is no cost to post your c.v. and your name and contact information are not made public. Here's how it works:

Employers are able to browse all resumes. However, the only personal information visible is a nickname you create. If the employer is interested in a resume, he/she will "Add to Resume Cart." In order to contact these candidates, the employer will click on 'Contact Checked Candidates.' From here they will be brought to a page where they can fill out a form including job description, travel, salary details, etc.

Once complete, a request will be delivered to the candidate(s). The email will state that Employer ABC is interested in his/her resume. At this point, the job seeker will have two options - one link to click if he/she is interested and one link to click if he/she is not interested. If the job seeker states that he/she is interested, the contact information will be released automatically to the employer and the employer will be charged the connection fee.

Upload your resume today!

2. Local Organizers Needed

As the NPA prepares to launch an ongoing campaign for universal health care and to continue our hard fight against undue industry influence on our profession, we need local organizers across the country to build our base and amplify our message. If you have interest in:

  • introducing NPA issues through morning report or grand rounds presentations
  • hosting a houseparty to introduce colleagues to the organization
  • organizing a local event or speaker
  • recruiting
just drop a note to npa@npalliance.org and you'll hear back from us! We will provide all the resources you need to build a strong local NPA action group. It is rewarding work. We'd love to have you on board with it.

3. NPA Leadership Opportunities

This fall, the NPA will hold its first official election for the Board of Directors. NPA committees will also be looking for new members. These are excellent ways to get more involved in your organization and to work with like-minded colleagues. Check your upcoming monthly newsletters for details.

4. Advocacy Update: Datamining

The NPA, the Prescription Project, and the American Medical Student Association continue to challenge the AMA to stop selling data from its "Physician Masterfile" for pharmaceutical marketing purposes. Read the op-ed co-authored by NPA President Lydia Vaias that recently ran in the San Francisco Chronicle (and was also highlighted by the Kaiser Family Foundation).

6. Member Profile: Dr. Paul Gross

NPA member Dr. Paul Gross teaches narrative medicine to residents in Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and is preparing to launch an exciting new online magazine: Pulse—voices from the heart of medicine. Pulse will use a unique format—one story or poem e-mailed every week—to talk about the realities of giving and receiving health care, and how our system of health affects that care. To become a friend of Pulse and get on the mailing list (it's free!) drop him an e-mail. Pulse is welcoming submissions of prose, poetry, photos and visuals. Pulse also wishes to connect with individuals and organizations who share its passion for health and well-being, self-expression, social justice, and patient advocacy.
