NPA IN THE NEWS

Coverage of the NPA continued this week on several fronts. Thanks to all the members who have been out there writing editorials, blogging and getting the word out there. Some of the many examples follow.

NPA members Dr. Jeff Huebner and Dr. Charles Mayer wrote an op-ed in The Seattle Times outlining the reasons to support a public plan option. This article was followed by an editorial supporting a public plan option. See Dr. Huebner and Dr. Mayer's article here:

See an editorial in the Bangor Daily News by NPA member Dr. Benjamin Schaefer:

And a piece in The Daily Kos by Dr. Aaron Fox:

NPA is mentioned in an article discussing doctors who are in favor of a public plan option:

Listen to Dr. Valerie Arkoosh describe why a cooperative would not necessarily be the best option to private insurance plans:

PRESS PEARLS

Barack Obama came out Tuesday in support of a public plan option. See part of the press conference here:

The media have largely ignored the huge public support of a public plan option as outlined in The New York Times poll last week. 72 percent of people overall supported a public plan option. A majority of those polled were willing to pay higher taxes to support such a plan. See the article here:

and the results of the poll here:

Also worth a look is the recent HHS report on the hidden costs of health care. Americans are paying more and more for healthcare premiums but having to increase out of pocket costs.

Read Robert Reich's advice on how to pursue health care reform posted in Salon.com. He proposes making health reform a priority, utilizing Obama's popular support and not compromising:

A Washington Post article discusses the way in which Obama has spread the budget cuts to support health care reform.
