The public discourse around health care reform reached a new low this week as groups opposed to reform moved to disrupt public Health Care Town Halls by shouting, booing, and in one case, hanging a Maryland Congressional Representative in effigy outside of the Town Hall. The goal of these groups is to shut down discourse. The NPA is committed to making sure that your voice and the voice of our patients is heard!

Yesterday, the NPA sent this letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

-Reinforce this message by joining with colleagues and scheduling a meeting with your Senators and Congressional Representative this month. We can help with logistics and talking points. E-mail valerie.arkoosh@npalliance.net

-If you can't arrange a meeting, fax a letter in support of reform to your Members of Congress.

-Share the stories of your patients with us. We are sharing your stories with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Members of Congress. Your stories refocus the media from reporting about political infighting back to the urgent need for health care reform. Submit your story here.

Counter the lies! An e-mail is circulating purporting to represent the content of the House Bill, HR 3200. It lists page numbers of the bill and makes false claims about the content of the bill. NPA has a factual document that corrects each of these false claims, page by page. Access that document here.

Put on your white coat and make a house call! Our partners at Health Care for America Now are planning canvassing events across the country on August 22^nd. The impact of a doctor in a white count knocking on a door in support of reform is tremendous. Finally, we are getting phone calls every day from Members of Congress and the media looking for pro-reform physicians who are willing to stand with their Congressional representatives at public events or be interviewed for the print media or be a guest on a local radio show. Can you help? We need physicians from all parts of the country to stand up and tell the truth about what is happening to their patients every day. NPA will provide talking points and training.
