We had a great meeting last week!
Now is a critical time to get involved.  Although the public option will likely not be in the final Finance bill, there's still a hope for it in the following weeks, but time is running out!!!

1. Next meeting Thurs Oct 15th 7:30
2. Last meeting successes
3. Recent events
4. Upcoming events

2. Last meeting: SUCCESS!!!
* We filmed 6 interviews with Junko, a volunteer videographer who has been really excited about recording our work and our opinions.
* We posted 12 video statements for the website: http://www.isupportthepublicoption.org/
Check our videos out the youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/thepublicoption and then enter 'npany' in the search box.
* We responded to the news that the Senate Finance Committee voted down the public option...but we haven't lost hope (there was actually more support than expect in the 10-13 vote!)

3. NPA NY getting involved  http://npany.blogspot.com/
Manel Silva got her letter to the editor published in the NY Times!!! http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/opinion/l02health.html (it's the 3rd letter).  She also met with Rep McMahon from Staten Island, along with 5 others from progressive groups and 6 from Tea Party of SI.  I'm not kidding.  It was very interesting...
Bill Jordan spoke on a panel on health care reform in the Bronx, sharing the stage with Rep. Engel.
Oni Blackstock moderated a panel that Manisha Sharma and Manel Silva spoke on at the New York Academy of Medicine on the Uninsured and Underinsured (we're still wondering why Ollie Fein, from PNHP, decided not to be a panelist).
Viraj Patel co-sponsored a phonebanking session with OFA, and Sharon Phillips had an NPA phonebanking session at her house, where they used their experience as physicians to get constituents to call their representatives.
