DemocracyInAction provides two different online donation options.

Option 1 - Verisign Primary Account

Donations are taken on our secure server, and processed through the DemocracyInAction Verisign gateway. Deposits are made into a central account, and dispersed monthly. Refunds are submitted to DemocracyInAction for processing. In Option 1, the credit card statement shows DemocracyInAction as the web vendor. Only 501(c)3 organizations may use the DemocracyInAction merchant account.

DemocracyInAction will credit any donor that asks for a refund. The donor may contact us directly and we will issue a credit. If a donor asks you for the credit, please take their information and then contact us directly.

Option 2 - Customer Merchant Account

DemocracyInAction also works directly with these gateway processors: Authorize.net, Verisign and YourPay. In this case, the client signs up for one (or multiple) accounts with these providers, and DemocracyInAction processes transactions directly into the merchant account. The credit card receipt would then show up as the client account. All refunds are handled directly by the client through the merchant account interface. Our system does not allow for recurring donations with Authorize.net, however, due to limitations in the Authorize.net api. If you'd like to accept recurring donations please use Verisign for your credit card processing needs.

In both options, you're able to customize email responses to the donors. Regardless of the option, transaction data (less credit card data) is maintained in the DemocracyInAction system for email targeting, reporting, etc. DemocracyInAction allows full customization of all donation pages, and supports up to fifty separate donation pages.
