DemocracyInAction.org was born out of the notion that online advocacy tools are a force that organizations can use to create social change and should be accessible to those with an interest in building a more civil society. We are striving to build a financially sustainable operation by charging organizations reasonable fees for some of the services we provide. How Can We Do This?
We're able to provide advanced tools and services at cheaply for several reasons.
The technology infrastructure required for a professional services firm no longer needs $200K high-tech salaries, high-priced bulky databases, and huge servers running proprietary software to operate efficiently and effectively. Technology has migrated toward more reliable open source tools, and we embrace every tried and tested piece out there.
Also, as a nonprofit, every dime we make is reinvested into our toolset, and every addition to our toolset benefits every group. We build things once and every organization reaps the benefits. In fact, we test and release new upgrades to the system weekly, based on the needs of the organizations we serve.

We have many years of experience working in both the software development and nonprofit advocacy community and have learned the most effective ways of using the Internet to organize and promote change online.
